2020 Travel Stipends

The call for applications for annual meeting travel stipends is now open. Applications are due by September 27, 2019

You are eligible to apply for a travel stipend if you are a student, contingent faculty member, or unemployed, and are: (a) presenting on the SCS program / organizing a session; or (b) serving on a SCS committee that will meet in Washington DC. For the purposes of the travel stipends, we define "contingent faculty" as anyone holding a non-tenure track position. Preference will be given to those who are not receiving financial support from their academic institution or another organization.

The value of graduate student stipends will be at least $250 and the value of stipends for contingent faculty and those who are unemployed will be at least $300. Depending on demand and subject to the approval of the SCS board of directors, stipend amounts may be increased. Applicants will be notified of stipends and stipend amounts in October and SCS will make payments in early November.

Please fill out this online form to apply.

Equity Funding for 2020 Meeting

With funding from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, SCS will be providing stipends, which can be used to cover the costs of travel, registration and / or accommodation for students who are: (a) members of historically underrepresented ethnic and racial groups in the field of Classics, for example, African-American, Hispanic-American, Asian-American, Native-American, and Pacific-Islander American students: or (b) have a demonstrated commitment to promoting equity and inclusion of historically underrepresented groups in the field. Students at any level, who meet the criteria above and who are interested in attending the meeting for any reason are invited to apply. Preference will be given to students who are not receiving financial support for the meeting from their academic institution or another organization.

You may apply for both equity funding and a regular 2020 travel stipend, if you are eligible for both programs, but will only receive funding from one of these programs.

To apply please fill out this online form by September 27, 2019. Applicants will be notified of stipends and stipend amount in October and SCS will make payments in early November.
