EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR. The Archaeological Institute of America (www.archaeological.org), headquartered at Boston University, is North America's oldest and largest organization devoted to the world of archaeology. With almost 9,000 members and 102 local societies, the AIA, a not-for-profit 501 (c) (3) corporation, endeavors to educate and inform the public about archaeological matters, supports research, fosters professionalism, and advocates the preservation of the world's archaeological heritage. The staff is approximately 31, evenly divided between Boston and New York (where Archaeology, circulation 230,000, is published), and the budget is $6.5 million. The executive director is empowered to provide leadership in all aspects of the Institute's operations. While knowledge of archaeology is an advantage, it is not a requirement.
