The Classical Civilizations Department at Gonzaga University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of ancient Greek literature and culture. We seek an individual with a strong generalist background (although a specialty in prose is welcome), who will be expected to teach Greek and Latin at all undergraduate levels, courses in Greek and Roman culture, literature-in-translation, and mythology. Experience in teaching First Year Seminars, Study Abroad, and/or New Testament Greek is considered an asset but not essential. Teaching load is 3/3. The university’s College of Arts and Sciences requires coursework in foreign language as part of its strong liberal arts curriculum; faculty are expected to contribute to both the University Core and to incorporate the university's distinctly Jesuit, Catholic, and humanistic mission into their pedagogy.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Classics or related discipline
  • Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching
  • Evidence of active commitments to scholarship and professional participation in the field
