The Department of Classics at the University of Cincinnati invites applications for the inaugural Theodore and Bessie Christopoulos Professorship in ancient Greek history at the level of associate or full professor (rank commensurate with credentials), to begin August 15, 2021.
The Department of Classics offers BA programs in Classics and Classical Civilization and MA and PhD programs in Greek and Latin Language and Literature, Ancient History, Bronze Age Archaeology, and Classical Archaeology. The department prides itself on providing an interdisciplinary environment that educates students in philology, ancient history, and archaeology. It is housed together with the Burnam Classics Library, one of the largest and best collections of resources in Classics in the world, including an important collection of Byzantine and Modern Greek resources. Minimum Requirements:
- Prior to the effective date of employment, applicants must hold a doctorate, or foreign equivalent, in Classics, Ancient History, or a related field, have published a scholarly monograph in the field, and hold the rank of associate or full professor, or foreign equivalent, at their current institution
Job Duties:
- The selected candidate will be expected to: conduct research in ancient Greek history and author related publications; help craft an innovative program for the teaching of ancient history at the graduate and undergraduate levels; and recruit and advise M.A. and Ph.D. students
- Teaching responsibilities will include introductory surveys of ancient history, graduate seminars, and courses in classical languages, especially historical authors, at the graduate and undergraduate levels
- The selected candidate will also be expected to provide service to the department through work on departmental committees
