The Department of Classics at the University of Cincinnati invites applications for a position in Ancient Greek and/ or Latin Philology at the level of associate or full professor, to begin August 15, 2021. Rank will be determined commensurate with credentials.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A doctorate degree in Classics, awarded prior to the effective date of appointment, is required.
  • The ability to read and comprehend ancient Greek and Latin, as evidenced in the publication record, is also required.

Job Duties:

Selected candidate will be expected to teach classical languages at both graduate and undergraduate levels, to teach undergraduate courses in various aspects of the ancient world (e.g, Greek or Roman Civilization), and to both recruit and advise M.A. and Ph.D. students. Candidate will be expected to conduct research and publish in the field of Classics and to provide service to the department (e.g, serving on departmental committees).

The Department of Classics offers B.A. programs in Classics and Classical Civilization and M.A. and Ph.D. programs in Greek and Latin Language and Literature, Ancient History, Bronze Age Archaeology, and Classical Archaeology. The candidate will be joining a department with faculty who have a history of sustained, high quality research. Faculty thrive in an interdisciplinary environment that educates students in philology, ancient history, and archaeology. The department is housed together with the Burnam Classics Library, one of the largest and best collections of resources in Classics in the world, including a collection of Byzantine and Modern Greek resources.
