AUGUSTANA COLLEGE – ROCK ISLAND, IL
Augustana College Classics Dept. invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor (with Ph.D. by Sept. 1, 2007) or instructor. The annual number of courses (in ten-week trimesters) is 2-2-3. The research specialization is open; our new colleague will be required to maintain an active scholarly agenda leading to peer-reviewed publication. What matters most is the ability to teach – imaginatively, designedly, and engagingly – a broad, flexible, and innovative array of undergraduate courses. These include, at one point or another, all undergraduate levels of Greek and Latin, the main genres of classical literature in translation, and a course of one's design in classics for first-year students. All classics professors teach regularly in Augustana's innovative general education program. We further welcome interest in collaborative courses, in educational technology, and in off-campus programs such as our European Term. We will interview at the APA meeting in San Diego in January 2007, and thus must receive applications by December 1, 2006. Details about Augustana, our expectation of the faculty, the selection process, and the Quad Cities are all available at the Faculty Search website: http://www.augustana.edu/academics/faculty_search. Augustana is an equal opportunity employer and actively encourages application from women and persons of diverse ethnic backgrounds. We do not discriminate based on age, race, color, ethnic origin, gender, sexual orientation, disability or creed. For further details, email the department chair, ThomasBanks@augustana.edu. Send a letter of application, c.v., graduate transcripts, statement of teaching philosophy, writing sample and three letters of recommendation to Classics Search Committee, Jeff Abernathy, Dean of the College, Augustana College, 639 38th Street, Rock Island, IL 61201.
