The Australian National University seeks to appoint an on-going (tenurable) Lecturer in Classics and Ancient History, with an emphasis on Greek language and literature. The duties of the position are comparable with those of a Lecturer in the UK or an Assistant Professor in the US.

The appointee will be expected to develop and maintain a strong research profile, contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate coursework teaching, supervise honours and higher degree research students, and undertake administrative roles and community/professional service activities that contribute to the overall effectiveness and standing of the university.

The appointee will have a PhD in Classics with a demonstrated track record of research and teaching experience in Ancient Greek, Latin and/or Ancient History at a tertiary level. Teaching will range from beginners’ to advanced courses in ancient Greek, but may also include courses in Latin, Ancient History, and/or literature in translation. The successful applicant will be willing to contribute to collaborative interdisciplinary teaching and to the wider ANU community.
