Classics and History Programs, Ancient Historian. Bard College is seeking to fill a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor position for an ancient historian or a classicist working on historical/historiographical issues. We seek someone who can help expand a growing program by possibly teaching beginning and intermediate Greek and Latin as well as courses on ancient history in translation. Prefer Ph.D. in hand with some teaching experience, but ABD's will be considered. Above all candidates should show breadth of interest, ability to connect their particular specialization with other areas of Classics and with other disciplines, and commitment to the goals of a liberal-arts college. The successful candidate will be expected to teach a full range of courses in Greek and Latin languages at all levels, to fashion courses in translation which reach out to all students in the college and to participate regularly in the required First Year Seminar program. Our primary criteria are demonstrated excellence in teaching and research plus a compellingly articulated vision of the relation of Classics to the mission of a liberal arts college.
