    Classics and History Programs, Ancient Historian.
    Bard College is seeking to fill a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor position for an ancient historian or a classicist working on historical/historiographical issues. We seek someone who can help expand a growing program by possibly teaching beginning and intermediate Greek and Latin as well as courses on ancient history in translation. Prefer Ph.D. in hand with some teaching experience, but ABD's will be considered. Above all candidates should show breadth of interest, ability to connect their particular specialization with other areas of Classics and with other disciplines, and commitment to the goals of a liberal-arts college.     Visiting Assistant Professor in Latin Literature. Bard College is seeking to fill a one-year visiting position in Latin Literature at the Assistant Professor level. Candidates should preferably have the Ph.D. in hand, but ABD's will also be considered. The position will call for teaching courses in the Greek and Latin languages at all levels, courses in translation fashioned to reach out to a broad spectrum of students in a liberal arts environment, and courses in Bard's First Year Seminar program required of all first year students.   2. Tenure Track Assistant Professor (pending final approval). Classical Studies at Bard College is seeking an Assistant Professor specializing in Latin Literature. The successful candidate will be expected to teach a full range of courses in Greek and Latin languages at all levels, to fashion courses in translation which reach out to all students in the college and to participate regularly in the required First Year Seminar program. Our primary criteria are demonstrated excellence in teaching and research plus a compellingly articulated vision of the relation of Classics to the mission of a liberal arts college. Classical Studies at Bard College is seeking a well-established classicist to join its teaching faculty as a long-term chair who will build up the program. The area of specialization and disciplinary focus have been left open. The two essential requirements are a demonstrated concern for language pedagogy and a compellingly articulated vision of the relation of Classics to the mission of a liberal arts college. The successful candidate will be invited to spend a year at Bard (on leave from home institution) with a tenure decision at the year's end.
