The Classics program at Bard College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor, to begin fall 2013. We seek a classicist with an ambitious research agenda, preferably focused on some aspect of ancient Rome, and with a commitment to energetic, engaged undergraduate teaching. The successful candidate will teach language courses at all levels, primarily Latin but also Greek, and courses in Roman literature and history in the original language and in translation, as well as ancient civilization seminars and general education courses. At Bard Classics fosters connections with numerous humanities programs as well as theater, creative writing and the arts. Bard is a highly selective college of the liberal arts and sciences with 1900 students, located 90 miles north of New York City on the Hudson River. Candidates should demonstrate expertise in their field but also an interest in making that field relevant across a broad range of disciplines. Candidates must hold the Ph.D. or be on track to attain it by Sept. 2013.
