Baylor University, Department of Classics invites applications for two one-year appointments at the rank of Lecturer beginning August 2005. The teaching assignment may include instruction in both Latin and Greek at the beginning through advanced levels, as well as energetic involvement in the department's academic community. We expect the person appointed to engage students actively and intellectually both in and out of the classroom. Applicants should have a demonstrable record of outstanding teaching and show strong scholarly potential. The Classics major at Baylor is philologically based, emphasizing a significant quantity of reading in the primary languages. The Department of Classics (http://www3.baylor.edu/classics/) invites applications for the position of Chair, beginning August 1, 2005. The new chair will be expected to lead and mentor in a variety of ways this large (four Associate Professors, five Assistant Professors, four Lecturers), vibrant, and congenial department. The classics program is philologically based, emphasizing reading in the primary languages, and it is among the strongest in the university. The chair will be expected to maintain and enhance this standing. He or she must care deeply for undergraduate education, have a distinguished publication record, and be a strong proponent of the classics as a discipline and a profession.
