Bolchazy-Carducci Publishers seeks an individual who has: dedication to the field of classics, a desire to participate in scholarship, a PhD (preferred) in Classics, love for the humanities in general, willingness to learn and grow, ability to work as a member of a dynamic team. Bolchazy-Carducci Publishers, Inc., is a recognized leader in its commitment to publishing books about the classical world. We have created a new career-ladder position that promises fulfillment and rewards in a creative, growing business. The position offers a starting salary of $30,000 (plus benefits) and, for the right person, subsequent compensation at rates competitive with those offered in academic positions. This position is designed to lead to advancement in the firm through the progressive completion of assignments as a program manager, assistant editor, and editor. Our firm is in a growth cycle and is proud of its strong team of colleagues. The pace of the work is challenging but humane. Duties are varied &endash; as with any position there is some administrative or routine work (e.g. coordinating ad exchanges) &endash; and adjustable to the strengths and willingness of the individual. The position may include any or all of the following: journal editing, acquistion and editing of manuscripts for new scholarly works, development of scholarly reprint series, development of text and teaching materials for high school and university use, and development of on-line/on-demand publishing ventures. The position also involves substantial work with Bolchazy-Carducci's projected new line of general trade books designed to foster responsible popularization of the Classics. An orientation toward promoting the Classics is therefore essential. The successful candidate preferably will have earned a PhD in Classics and have a strong interest in publishing. Experience in publishing and/or bookselling is a consideration, but certainly not necessary. Good people skills, however, are a must, since the position requires close work with a wide variety of professionals both in Classics and in the publishing industry. The publisher pays for attendance at selected major conferences and programs. The publisher is a strong advocate of continuing education and subsidizes courses that enhance knowledge of the publishing industry. In addition, accomodation of scheduled work hours may be made to allow for part-time teaching. We invite letters of interest.
