The Department of Classical Studies invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the level of Assistant Professor, with specialization in the area of Roman studies. Ph.D. by the time of appointment (September 1, 2007) is expected.

Candidates must be able to teach both Latin and Greek language and literature from the elementary to the advanced level (the latter courses include both undergraduates and M.A. students). We particularly solicit candidates who complement their broad philological training with a proven interest in social and cultural history, and who show promise of creating innovative courses for ndergraduates in the broad area of Roman civilization. The normal teaching load is three courses per term.

Applications should include (1) a cover letter, describing both your research interests and at least one innovative course in the area of Roman civilization that you have taught or hope to teach, (2) a curriculum vitae and a graduate transcript, (3) three letters of recommendation, and (4) a brief writing sample.
