The College of Arts and Sciences at Boston University is pleased to announce the establishment of the Maria Stata Professorship in Classical Greek Studies. The successful candidate will be a distinguished and internationally-recognized scholar in any field of ancient Greek studies, and will hold the rank of Professor with tenure in an appropriate department, especially, but not limited to, Archaeology, Classical Studies, History, the History of Art & Architecture, Philosophy and Political Science.

The Stata Professor will build upon the long tradition at Boston University of excellence in scholarship and teaching concerned with the ancient world and the classical tradition. The successful candidate will have an exceptional record of research, teaching and directing both undergraduates and graduate students, as well as evidence of professional citizenship and leadership. The Stata Professor will be expected to teach on a regular basis at least one undergraduate course on ancient Greece in English translation, thereby honoring the donor's wish to ensure that more students grasp the importance and fascination of the ancient Greek world.
