Bowdoin College, a private, undergraduate, coeducational institution, invites applications for a tenure-track position in the Department of Classics in ancient history / classics at the Assistant Professor or Instructor level beginning Fall 2000. Ph.D. preferred, but A.B.D.considered. A specialization in classical history and evidence of strong teaching experience are essential; candidates should also be competent and enthusiastic to teach language courses from the elementary to the advanced undergraduate level of Greek and / or Latin. Teaching responsibilities will include five courses annually, two on historical topics and three Greek and / or Latin language / literature classes. Of the history courses, one each year will be introductory, alternately Greek and Roman, the others on historical subjects of special interest to the candidate and to the department.
