The Department of Classics at Brooklyn College invites applications for a one-year replacement position at the rank of Substitute Assistant Professor or Substitute Instructor, to begin Fall 2012. We seek candidates trained in the literature and material culture of the ancient Mediterranean. Preference will be given to candidates with experience bringing archaeological evidence into the classroom. The successful candidate will be a creative and inspiring educator capable of reaching students from a diverse range of backgrounds at a public, urban institution. S/he will have a proven track record of teaching Graeco-Roman literature and culture in translation and the ability to teach at least one ancient language at all levels. Candidates for appointment at the rank of Substitute Assistant Professor must have the Ph.D. by 27 August 2012; candidates for appointment at the rank of Substitute Instructor must have an M.A. by the same date. Candidates who are at least ABD will be given preference.
