The Department of Comparative Literature at Brown University invites applications for a three year (tenure track) Assistant Professorship to begin July 1, 2003. Applicants must have Ph. D. (or be close to completion). Areas of specialization: classics/early modern, area open; the impact of the ancient world on medieval or early modern Europe; Mediterranean studies. Candidates should demonstrate a familiarity with literary theory, the ability to teach and pursue scholarly work in at least two literatures/linguistic traditions, and for those presenting classics, training in and knowledge of a modern language and its literature. Evidence of scholarly promise and a commitment to excellence in teaching. We seek candidates at the beginning or early stages of their careers. Two courses (totaling 6 hours) per semester; salary competitive.
