BUCKNELL UNIVERSITY – LEWISBURG, PA

  1. The Department of Classics invites applications for an entry level (no more than four years of full time teaching experience post Ph.D.) one-year temporary position at the rank of visiting assistant professor beginning August 2009. The department seeks a classical archaeologist to teach courses in material culture and classical civilization. Possible offerings include: the Archaeology of Egypt, Ancient Technology, the Age of Alexander, Classical Myth, Ancient Cities, and courses in the applicant's area of expertise. Teaching experience and a completed Ph.D. is preferred, but ABD considered.   2. Beginning August 2009, tenure-track, assistant professor in the department of classics; entry level preferred. The department seeks a generalist philologist with an emphasis in Latin language and literature to teach a sequence of literature and civilization courses, Latin and Greek at all levels, and courses in the applicant's area of expertise (specific area of specialization is open.) Bucknell has a 5 course/year teaching load. Our ideal candidate exhibits a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching in the liberal arts tradition, evidence of scholarly achievement or promise, and a willingness to participate in the service demands of a thriving department and a strong university governance system. Complete dossier should include at least three letters of reference, writing sample, and evidence of potential for teaching excellence (e.g., syllabi and teaching evaluations).
