California State University, Fresno, announces a tenure-track position in Classics and Humanities starting Fall 2002. The successful candidate will be expected to teach Greek and Latin at all levels; literature in translation and humanities courses; and participate in Classical Studies activities. Specific assignments will be dependent on department needs. Other responsibilities include scholarly research and publication, working with students, possible thesis committee work, and service at all levels of university governance. The candidate may be called upon to teach in a distance-learning mode.

Qualifications: Earned doctorate (PhD) in Classics or Comparative Literature (Greek, Latin, and English literatures) is required for appointment to tenure-track position. ABD candidates may be considered for a lectureship (temporary) position with the possibility of conversion to a tenure-track position.

Candidates are expected to demonstrate a potential for or commitment to teaching excellence and scholarly activity at the university level. Proven teaching aptitude and/or classroom experience in introductory Latin, introductory Greek, upper-division Greek and Latin authors (both literary and historical), literature in translation, ancient mythology, as well as introductory surveys in the humanities of the Western world and specialized humanities courses in classical Greece in Rome, is preferred.
