CASE WESTERN RESERVE UNIVERSITY – CLEVELAND, OH
The Classics Department of Case Western Reserve University invites applications for two positions with the rank of full-time lecturer or Visiting Assistant Professor. For the first position, we seek a colleague able to teach both history and some language courses (particularly beginning Latin) and preferably also familiar with current techniques, methodologies, and theory in archaeology and material culture studies, especially in relation to the ancient Mediterranean world. Applications from scholars of Late Antiquity would be welcome. The second position (a leave-replacement, subject to approval) is for a Hellenist with teaching expertise in literature, history, and ancient Greek. Successful candidates would also contribute to the evolution of a highly interdisciplinary and collegial department representing research interests and pedagogy that range from the ancient Mediterranean to the classical tradition in Europe and beyond (see http://www.case.edu/artsci/clsc/). Course load in both cases would be 3/3, with one or two courses taught for the university's undergraduate seminar program SAGES (http://www.case.edu/sages/). Applications consisting of a letter of application, a curriculum vitae, and three letters of reference should be sent electronically and preferably also in hard copy to Charles Burroughs, Acting Chair, Department of Classics, Case Western Reserve University, Mather House, 11201 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44106-7111 (ceb33@case.edu). The deadline for the receipt of materials is March 20. We will be interviewing at CAMWS in Minneapolis, but will certainly consider applications from those unable to attend. In employment, as in education, Case Western Reserve University is committed to Equal Opportunity and Diversity. Applications from women or minorities are encouraged.
