The Department of Greek and Latin at The Catholic University of America invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of assistant or associate professor, beginning in Fall 2000. Candidates must (1) have earned the Ph.D. or equivalent or have completed the requirements for the doctorate by September 1, 2000; (2) possess equal competence in Greek and Latin; (3) have a demonstrated research interest in Greek Patristic literature; (4) be prepared to offer (a) basic and advanced instruction in both languages, (b) undergraduate courses in Classical literature and civilization, and (c) graduate courses and seminars on Classical, Patristic, and/or Byzantine texts and topics. Competence in one or more of the following areas would also be welcome: Greek palaeography, history of the Greek language, papyrology, comparative philology, Sanskrit.
