The Department of Greek and Latin at The Catholic University of America has obtained administrative approval to invite applications for a full-time, tenure-track appointment at the rank of assistant professor, to begin in August 2006. Applicants should expect to have the Ph.D. degree in hand by the time of the appointment and show promise in research and teaching. The Department will conduct interviews at the A.P.A. meeting in Montreal in January 2006.

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Classics, broad training in Greek and Latin literature, and a research specialty in Greek. The Department seeks a classicist who will be prepared to teach a wide range of courses at all levels in Greek and Latin languages and literatures, classical literature in translation, and Greek and Roman history and civilization.

Applications, including a curriculum vitae, evidence of excellence in teaching, a sample of academic writing (e.g., an article or chapter of a book/dissertation no more than 25 pages long), and a short description of the applicant's research interests and plans, should be sent to Professor Frank Mantello, Chair, Department of Greek and Latin, The Catholic University of America, Washington, DC 20064, by December 12, 2005.
