CHRISTOPHER NEWPORT UNIVERSITY- NEWPORT NEWS, VA
The Christopher Newport University Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures seeks applicants to fill a tenure-track position in Classics beginning the Fall semester of 2003. The successful candidate is expected to hold the Ph.D. in Classics by August 1, 2003; however, candidates who will be awarded their degrees during the 2003-2004 academic year will be considered. The successful candidate must be prepared to teach courses in Latin, mythology, and etymology and be prepared to address the role of the Classics in the general education program. Applications will be enhanced by a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate education and an interest in scholarship and publication. The willingness to teach in a team-taught departmental course offered in English dealing with Greek drama will be considered a strong asset. This position represents a real opportunity to build upon an already viable basic program in the Classics with the goal of establishing a minor, or perhaps even a major, in the Classics at CNU.

CNU, a public, liberal arts and sciences university of 5,000 students, is located in Newport News on the Virginia Peninsula, between Williamsburg and Virginia Beach. The University is seeking outstanding undergraduate teachers who will engage students in creative and disciplined intellectual challenges. If interested in applying to become a member of the University's faculty of teacher scholars, please visit our web site at www.cnu.edu/admin/hr or call (757) 594-8819 for detailed information on the position (Search #8010), application requirements, and the University. Review of applications will begin on December 2, 2002 and will continue until the position is filled. CNU, an EOE, is fully committed to Access and Opportunity.
