Assistant Professor of Classical Studies - The Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in Classical Studies, beginning August 2006. The successful candidate will have a commitment to undergraduate teaching and learning and will actively contribute to the growth of our Classical Studies program. Teaching responsibilities will include Latin and Greek language and literature at all levels, classical mythology, and classical civilization. We seek a generalist who can contribute to the University's liberal learning core, but strong preference will be given to applicants who have interest and experience in creating innovative, interdisciplinary courses in ancient culture, the classical tradition, and gender studies. The required course load is 4/4. Ph.D. in Classics in hand by July 1, 2006, is required for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, but well-qualified A.B.D. candidates may be considered for a non-tenure-track appointment at the rank of instructor.Christopher Newport University is a selective, residential, state-supported institution of approximately 4,800 students.
