CLASSICAL ASSOCIATION OF THE ATLANTIC STATES – EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

The Classical Association of the Atlantic States (CAAS) is seeking to appoint an Executive Director, effective immediately, for a renewable term of three years.

The Executive Director is charged with the following responsibilities:

  1. Maintaining continuity in the Association by advising the officers, the Executive Committee, and the Board of Directors of previous decisions and past procedures, keeping lists of officers and committee members along with terms of office, and the like.
  2. Seeing to it that the Association, its officers, and its members abide by the by-laws and other regulations that the Association may decide upon.
  3. Working with the CAAS Treasurer to ensure that the Association is in compliance with all pertinent local, State, and Federal regulations; and serving as a member of the CAAS Finance Committee.
  4. Serving as the official representative of the Association, which involves maintaining an Association mailing and email address, serving as official "signer" for CAAS, and serving as the official representative of CAAS for certain business aspects of Classical World.
  5. Editing and producing a CAAS Newsletter.
  6. Acting as Conference Coordinator for meetings of the Association, which involves choosing and negotiating with hotels and managing meeting details, and, in the case of the annual meeting, managing conference pre-registration and on-site registration.
  7. Acting as a liaison with the Program Coordinator in preparation for the annual meeting of the Association.
  8. Working with the Philosophy Documentation Center on issues related to CAAS (membership, subscriptions, etc).

The position would normally go to a faculty member or administrator in a college, school, or university who has or can secure the help of an able administrative assistant, but all qualified persons are encouraged to apply.

The stipend--or stipends, in the case of a Director and an Administrative Assistant--will be determined in negotiations between the candidate and the CAAS Finance Committee. The appointment is subject to the approval of the CAAS Board of Directors.
