CLASSICAL STUDIES AND THE KELSEY MUSEUM.

The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Department of Classical Studies and Kelsey Museum of Archaeology have been authorized to make an appointment in Classical Studies and the Kelsey Museum at the entry level (tenure-track Assistant Professor and Assistant Curator in the Kelsey Museum) beginning September 1, 2020.

We seek a scholar who brings contemporary historical and/or archaeological perspectives to the study of ancient materials, and who is committed to museum research, exhibition, and education with expertise in one of the following areas: numismatics and economic history; Hellenistic Near Eastern material culture and archaeology; ethics and cultural heritage relating to the archaeology of the ancient Classical world. Applications from candidates with experience in, and enthusiasm for, digital humanities will be particularly welcome.

Promise of excellence in teaching and research and museum curation will be the principal selection criteria. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the Department of Classical Studies in its curricular and scholarly activities; teach two courses per year ranging from lower division undergraduate courses to specialized graduate seminars in Classical Studies, the Interdepartmental Program in Classical Art and Archaeology (IPCAA), and the Interdepartmental Program in Greek and Roman History (IPGRH); and eventually to advise undergraduates and supervise graduate students in the relevant fields. At the Kelsey Museum, the successful candidate will have the regular responsibilities of a curator, including participation in the exhibition program, stewardship (including publication) of the collections, and involvement in Museum-sponsored field projects and research. Qualifications: A Ph.D. in a relevant discipline prior to July 2020. This is a university-year appointment with an expected start date of September 1, 2020.
