The Department of the Classics at Colgate University invites applications for a tenure-stream position at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning fall semester 2012. The department seeks applicants with training and experience in the teaching of Latin and Greek at all levels. A research interest in Latin literature is preferred. Completion of Ph.D. is expected prior to or shortly after date of hire. The successful candidate will be expected to bring philological expertise to a department that places high emphasis on the languages and also plays a major role across the curriculum through courses in translation. He/She will also be expected to participate in all-university programs, including the Liberal Arts Core Curriculum. The teaching load is five courses per year. Colgate is a highly-selective liberal arts university of 2800 students situated in central New York. Colgate faculty are committed to excellence in both teaching and scholarship.
