COLGATE UNIVERSITY – HAMILTON, NY (Two Positions)
POSITION ONE: The Department of the Classics is authorized to make a tenure-track appointment at the level of Assistant Professor to begin in the Fall of 2006. The successful candidate will be expected to bring philological expertise to a department that not only places high emphasis upon the teaching of Greek and Latin, but also plays a major role across the curriculum in courses taught in translation. The department seeks candidates with training and experience in the teaching of Latin and Greek at all levels, preferably with a research interest in Latin literature. An equal commitment to teaching undergraduates and to research is expected. The successful candidate will also contribute to the Western Traditions tier of Colgate's Liberal Arts Core Curriculum. The teaching load is equivalent to five courses per year. POSITION TWO: The Department of the Classics is authorized to appoint a postdoctoral scholar with an interest in language pedagogy to teach three courses over the two-semester year for a period of one year, possibly renewable for an additional year, to begin in the Fall of 2006. Salary will be $37,500 per annum plus benefits. In addition, some financial support in the form of travel money, etc., will be available for research. The successful candidate should have completed her/his dissertation not more than three years prior to application and will be expected to contribute fully to the life of the department.
