The Department of Classics at Columbia University invites applications for the position of assistant professor in any field of ancient Greek or Latin Literature, to begin as of July 1, 2009. Ph.D. required. Candidates will be expected to sustain an active research and publication agenda and to teach Greek and/or Latin language courses at all levels, both undergraduate and graduate; to devise and teach literature and culture courses in translation to non-Classical majors; and also to participate in the Columbia College Core Curriculum. DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY
Ancient History. Columbia University History Department invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship funded by the Mellon Foundation for the academic year 2009-2010. The successful candidate will work with Professor William V. Harris and will have completed his/her Ph.D. in the period 2006-2009 but no later than 6/30/2009. Candidates with a strong interest in the history of madness or the history of medicine in antiquity, or with skills in economic history, would be especially welcome, but other Greek and Roman historians are encouraged to apply too. The fellow's responsibilities will be to pursue his/her own research and to help Professor Harris with certain collaborative projects; he/she will also be encouraged to teach a course.
