Art Historian, Columbia University, Art History and Archaeology of the Ancient Near East. The Department of Art History and Archaeology at Columbia University announces the continuation of its search in Ancient Near Eastern art and archaeology (the Porada Chair) at the rank of Assistant Professor. Candidates are expected to demonstrate strength in art historical methods, have field experience and an interest in archaeological excavation, and be competent in the ancient languages, as required by research. The Department of Classics at Columbia University has been authorized to make an appointment at the level of assistant professor, beginning in Fall 2002, with specialization in Latin literature. Applicants will be expected to teach a wide range of courses at all linguistic levels (elementary to graduate). We are particularly interested in applicants with a specialization in Roman comedy or historiography, but we welcome applications from specialists in any field of Latin literature. The person appointed will also be expected to teach regularly in the Columbia College core curriculum. Scholarly promise and evidence of excellence in teaching will be expected. Columbia University does not have a formal tenure-track system, but in accordance with the department's long-term plan, we anticipate that a tenured position will be available for an outstanding non-tenured Latinist.
