COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY - NEW YORK, NY
The Department of Classics at Columbia University has been authorized to make an entry-level appointment at the rank of assistant professor, beginning in Fall 2003, with specialization in Greek literature. Applicants will be expected to teach a wide range of courses at all linguistic levels (elementary to graduate). We are particularly interested in applicants with a specialization in any main field of Greek prose (especially rhetoric, philosophy and historiography). The person appointed will be expected to teach regularly in the Columbia College core curriculum. Scholarly promise and evidence of excellence in teaching will be expected. Columbia University does not have a formal tenure-track system, but in accordance with the department's long-term plan, we anticipate that a tenured position will be available for an outstanding non-tenured Hellenist.

Applications, including a curriculum vitae and three letters of recommendation, should be sent to Gareth Williams, Chair, Department of Classics, Columbia University, 617 Hamilton Hall, Mail Code 2861, 1130 Amsterdam Avenue, New York, NY 10027. Review of applications will begin on November 8, 2002. Columbia University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer, and encourages applications from women and minorities.
