The Department of Classics invites applications for the Prescott W. Townsend Assistant Professorship of Classics, to begin in the Fall of 1999 for a term of three years (non-renewable). The salary for 1999 will be $30,000. The Townsend Assistant Professor is expected to combine a program of research with the teaching of one course each semester; classicists of any speciality are endouraged to apply, but we would especially welcome those with additional interests in any one of the following: Byzantine Studies, Critical Theory/Cultural Studies, History of the Later Roman Empire, History of Science, Roman Art and Archaeology.
