The Department of Classics is seeking to appoint a lecturer to teach beginning and intermediate (primarily undergraduate) language courses in Greek, Latin and Sanskrit. The appointment will be for an initial term of three academic years (starting in 2011), with subsequent renewals possible. It will be the responsibility of this instructor to offer five semester-long courses per year (two in one semester and three in the other, amounting to a maximum of 15 and 10 class hours per week, respectively.) Normally two of these five courses will be in Sanskrit and the other three will be variously divided from year to year between Latin and Greek. Very fluent English is a requirement. The Department of Classics at Cornell University invites applications for a one-year replacement position in Ancient History at the level of Visiting Assistant Professor to begin July 2010. The position will also provide a joint appointment in the Department of History. Ph.D. is required at the time of appointment. The position includes standard health insurance and retirement benefits. Preferred specialties: Hellenistic world, Republican Rome or the Principate. Experience with material culture and/or of archaeological excavation highly desirable. Teaching load is four courses over two semesters (two introductory surveys, one each in Greek and Roman history, and two seminars).
