Cornell University: The Department of Classics is seeking to appoint a lecturer to teach beginning and intermediate (primarily undergraduate) language courses in Greek, Latin and Sanskrit. The appointment will be for an initial term of three academic years beginning in the fall of 2005, with subsequent renewals possible. It will be the responsibility of this instructor to offer five semester-long courses per year (two in one semester and three in the other, amounting to 15 and 10 class hours per week, respectively). Normally two of these five courses will be in Sanskrit and the other three will be variously divided from year to year between Latin and Greek. Very fluent English is a requirement. The Department of Classics invites applications for the Prescott W. Townsend Assistant Professorship of the Classics, to begin in the fall of 2005 for a term of three years (non-tenure track, non-renewable). The salary will start in the low 40îs. The Townsend Assistant Professor is expected to pursue a program of research and to teach one course per semester. The field of research is open, but we are particularly interested in applications from specialists in Greek and/or Roman Art and Archaeology, Roman Historiography, and History of Greco-Roman Science. The Cornell Medieval Studies Program, together with the relevant departments, invites applications for an approved tenure-track position beginning fall 2005. Our first priority is for a scholar and teacher with strong research interests in medieval Latin and a commitment to interdisciplinary studies in keeping with the nature and goals of the Medieval Studies Program. We are also interested in the ability to teach paleography or to direct research in medieval archeology. We will be searching chiefly at the assistant professor level, but more advanced candidates may be considered. In addition to being a member of the Graduate Field of Medieval Studies, the successful candidate will join an appropriate department.
