The Department of Classical Studies at Duke University invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor with Ph.D. in hand by the time of appointment. The position begins in Fall 2008, and might be renewable. We seek a broadly trained Classicist well versed in both Latin and Greek languages and literatures, whose specialty is either Latin prose or Republican literature. We encourage applicants with proven ability to teach intermediate and advanced undergraduate courses in Latin prose and verse, literature in translation, and possibly advanced undergraduate Greek. The successful candidate will have a 3/2 teaching load and perhaps the opportunity to teach a graduate course.
