Eckerd College invites applications for a definite tenure-track appointment at the Assistant or Associate level for a broadly educated classicist with strong preparation in Ancient Greece and/or Rome. Ph.D. required. The field of specialization is open, but preference will be given to candidates prepared in classical literature, philosophy, and/or history. Secondary preparation may be in any other of the above specializations, or in areas such as classical mythology, art, architecture, archaeology, Greek and Roman civilization, women in antiquity, or ancient religions. Teaching opportunities will include introductory language courses as well as undergraduate courses in the areas of specialization. Participation in an interdisciplinary values-oriented general education program is required, including a regular rotation in the two-semester freshman program. We seek someone who is an excellent, innovative teacher, and active in research.
