The Classics Department of Emory University invites applications for a one-year replacement position in Classics at Assistant Professor rank beginning Fall 1999. Candidates should be able to teach Greek and Latin at all undergraduate levels. Teaching experience desirable. Ph.D preferred, ABD considered. The person selected will likely teach elementary Latin, as well as Civilization courses including either Ancient Drama or The Age of Augustus. Five course load for the year (3/2 or 2/3). The Classics Department of Emory University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Candidates should have expertise in ancient Greek material culture within a broad framework of cultural studies. They should be able to teach such courses as "Ancient Cities and Urban Culture" and/or "Greek Archaeology", or other classical civilization courses of broad appeal, which could serve as a foundation for an undergraduate curriculum. The department would welcome a proposal for an innovative classical civilization course, to be sent with the application. Ideally the candidate should be able to teach Greek and/or Latin language and literature at all levels. Candidates with teaching experience strongly preferred. The candidate must have Ph.D. in hand by 8/99 for appointment as Assistant Professor. Other things being equal, preference will be given to candidates prepared to lead a summer program abroad occasionally.
