The Department of Classics at Emory University seeks to fill a tenure-track position in Latin at the Assistant Professor level beginning Fall 2007. The candidate should be qualified to teach Latin, Greek, and Classical civilization at all levels and show evidence of strong ability / potential in both research and teaching. Ph.D. required upon assumption of duties. Demonstrated interest in and excellence at teaching elementary Latin are particularly desirable. The teaching load is four courses a year and typically will include Elementary Latin I and II, a large general education class in Classical or Roman civilization, and a smaller elective in Latin, Greek, or Classical civilization. The latter might be a freshman seminar or a writing intensive course. Preference will be given to candidates who complement the research and teaching interests of our current faculty in interesting ways. We have particular research and teaching needs in Latin prose (non-fiction) and Medieval Latin.
