The Department of Classics at the Florida State University invites applications for a Visiting Instructor position for one academic year only, August 9th, 2006-May 8th, 2007. The visitor will teach a 4-4 load, including courses in Greek language and literature (undergraduate and graduate), classics in translation, and in world and ancient mythology. The Ph.D. is required by July 1, 2006. Fullest consideration will be given to applications received by May 1st, 2006, but the position will remain open until filled.

The Department of Classics at the Florida State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track appointment at the level of Assistant Professor, beginning August 9, 2006. Area of specialization is open, but preference will be given to candidates working in some area of Hellenistic or Roman social history, or Imperial (Greek or Roman) literature, history, and culture, to build on existing departmental strengths. Our faculty teach four courses per year, at the undergraduate and graduate levels, in both traditional and technology-enhanced environments, and supervise MA and PhD students. The PhD must be completed by August 1st, 2006. Starting salary is competitive. To ensure full consideration, dossiers (including at least three letters of recommendation) and a writing sample (a published article or at least one approved chapter of a dissertation) must be received by November 30, 2005.
