Furman University announces a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant Professor to begin August, 2011. We seek a broadly trained classicist who can teach Latin at all undergraduate levels and who can supervise students training to be secondary school Latin teachers. The successful candidate will also teach our Classical archaeology class, and have the opportunity to design and teach other courses in Greek, Latin, mythology, Roman civilization, and more focused seminars for Freshmen. We especially welcome candidates who can support original research by undergraduates that contributes significantly to our knowledge of the ancient world. The teaching load is five courses per year divided over two semesters. With its demonstrated history of outstanding teaching and undergraduate research, a recently renovated and expanded library, a new humanities building, the Classics Department at Furman University provides a supportive environment for a scholar interested in teaching at a liberal arts college where both teaching and scholarship are highly valued.
