  1. The Department of Classics at Gettysburg College invites applications for a full-time, one-year sabbatical replacement position, at the rank of Assistant Professor or Instructor, to begin late August 2001. Ph.D. preferred; relevant teaching experience required. Teaching responsibilities are, in the fall semester of 2001, two sections of elementary Latin and a course in Greek Civilization grounded in primary texts in translation and in intellectual history; in the spring semester of 2002, one section of second-semester intermediate Latin, a course in Ancient Comedy in translation, and most likely a topics course in the instructor's area of expertise if consistent with the needs of the Department's program. It is highly desirable that the person chosen be able to supervise a student-produced performance of an ancient comedy in translation at the end of the semester in conjunction with the Ancient Comedy course. The position may also involve assisting with tutorials in upper division Latin and with individualized studies or senior projects. Gettysburg College is a highly selective liberal arts college located within 90 minutes of the Baltimore/Washington metropolitan area. Established in 1832, the College has a rich history, and is situated on a 220-acre campus, with an enrollment of 2,300 students.
