The Department of Classics invites applications for a full-time, one-year sabbatical replacement position, at the rank of Assistant Professor or Instructor, to begin late August 2002. Ph.D. preferred; relevant teaching experience required. Teaching responsibilities will be, in the fall semester of 2002, one section of Intermediate Latin, one of Latin prose for advanced students and majors, and a topics course which will combine archaeology with classical history or literature; in the spring semester of 2003, two sections of Elementary Latin, and a Classical Studies course in Roman Civilization to be taught from a material remains/art-historical perspective. The position may also involve assisting with tutorials in upper-division Latin and with individualized studies or senior projects. Gettysburg College is a highly selective liberal arts college located within 90 minutes of the Baltimore-Washington area. Established in 1832, the College has a rich history and is situated on a 220-acre campus with an enrollment of 2,300 students.
