GONZAGA UNIVERSITY – SPOKANE, WA

The Classical Civilizations Department at Gonzaga University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor, beginning in September 2010. We seek a broadly trained philologist with a strong generalist background to teach Greek and Latin at all undergraduate levels, as well as courses in classical civilizations, literature-in-translation, and mythology. Required qualifications: earned Ph.D. in Classics or related discipline, or ABD; demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching; area of research specialization open, with evidence of active commitment to scholarship and professional participation in their field. Experience in teaching New Testament Greek and medieval Latin is considered an asset but not essential. Teaching load is 3/3. The university requires coursework in foreign language and culture study as part of its strong liberal arts core curriculum; faculty are expected to contribute to both the core and the university’s Jesuit, Catholic and humanistic mission.
