The Department of Classics invites applications for an approved, tenure-track appointment to be made at the assistant professor level, beginning August 2004. Candidates should demonstrate a solid commitment to undergraduate teaching, intellectual breadth and versatility, and a research agenda that complements the interests of other members of the department. The successful candidate will be able to teach Latin and Greek at all undergraduate levels, Latin prose composition, and classical literature in translation. Applicants with interests in intensive language instruction and/or Latin teaching methods, including at the secondary school level, are especially welcome. Ph.D. in Classics must be in hand by June 2004.
Established in 2000, the Department of Classics at Grand Valley State University presently includes five full-time tenured and tenure-track faculty. In addition to courses within the major, faculty members regularly offer courses with enrollments typically capped at 25-40 in the General Education program and in the Honors College; the latter offers regular opportunities for collaborative teaching.
