The Department of Classical Studies at Hanover College invites applications for a position in ancient history to begin in August 2005. This is an open rank, three-year, renewable position, possibly becoming tenure track. An historian whose general area of research is social history and/or material culture will be given preference. Hanover College is a small liberal arts college located in southeastern Indiana. The College is in the process of implementing a new core curriculum intended to provide students with multiple disciplinary and cultural perspectives. Interest in, and preferably substantial experience in, teaching broadly conceived, interdisciplinary course for undergraduates is essential; at least one such course per year will be taught. Within the Classical Studies Department, teaching duties include a range of courses in ancient history and culture and courses in Latin at all levels. Send a letter of interest describing teaching philosophy and experience, as well as current research. Supporting materials should include: 1) a current c.v.; 2) complete undergraduate and graduate transcripts; 3) three letters of recommendation; and 4) evidence of excellence in teaching.
