Just funded: The Department of Classical Studies at Hillsdale College invites applications for a two-year position (possibly renewable/tenure track) at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor to begin in August 2003. Applicants should have the Ph.D. in hand, or by the time of taking up the position.

The position is for a Generalist/Latinist to teach Latin and Greek at all undergraduate levels, with Latin courses predominating, as well as a range of classical civilization courses, including Roman civilization and Greek mythology. Applicants should be dedicated to undergraduate teaching, and preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated excellence in this area. The teaching load is 4/3.

Hillsdale is a small (1300 students), traditional liberal arts college located in the farm country of southern Michigan. The Classics Department is central to the mission of the College and has experienced strong growth in the past decade, as it has moved from a two to four person department. Salary is competitive and the cost of living in the area is low.
