HOBART AND WILLIAM SMITH COLLEGES - GENEVA, NEW YORK
The Department of Classics at Hobart and William Smith Colleges invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in ancient history at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning Fall 2009. We seek either an historian with competence in Latin and Greek or a classicist whose specialty is ancient history or historians. Candidates should have the Ph.D. in hand by July 2009; qualified ABD's will also be considered. A commitment both to lively undergraduate teaching and to scholarship is required.

Teaching responsibilities will include courses (in English) for undergraduates in Greek and Roman history and civilization; classes in Latin or Greek (or both) for upper-division undergraduates; and contribution to the Colleges' general curriculum (e.g., a First-Year Seminar or a course in our interdisciplinary program in European Studies).
