Assistant Professor of Classics. The Department of Foreign Languages at Illinois State University invites applications for a tenure-line position preferably to begin August 16, 2001. We are seeking a broadly-trained generalist prepared to teach introductory and intermediate Latin courses as well as contribute to our general education program in the area of the humanities. A.B.D. in Latin required; Ph.D. preferred; teaching experience, publications, and competence in Greek desirable. Preference will be given to candidates whose work has a strong comparative or interdisciplinary dimension and who are conversant with contemporary theoretical approaches to Latin literature and Roman culture; we are especially interested in candidates with research and teaching backgrounds in such areas of Roman culture as gender studies, social history, and/or in the area of medieval studies, and in persons with experience using computer and web-based instructional tools.
