The Department of Foreign Languages at Illinois State University is seeking applications for the position of Chair, preferably to begin on July 1, 2006.

Applicants must have a doctoral degree in a foreign language with a specialty in linguistics, literature, cultural studies, pedagogy, or comparable degree. Candidates should also have an established record of research and teaching accomplishments, and demonstrate effective leadership, as well as strong administrative and interpersonal skills. Candidates with the rank of advanced associate or full professor are invited to apply. The Chair will be expected to provide vision and to advance the department's educational and research missions.

The Department of Foreign Languages offers the B.A. in French, German, and Spanish, including teacher certification in those languages, as well as an M.A. in Foreign Languages whose students choose an emphasis in cultural studies, language/linguistics, literature, or pedagogy within French, German, or Spanish. The Department has approximately 200 majors, 575 minors, 35 graduate students, and 30 full-time faculty. Languages taught are Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Latin, and Spanish.
