ILLINOIS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY – BLOOMINGTON, IL

Illinois Wesleyan University seeks applications for a one-year, non-renewable sabbatical replacement for the academic year 2013-14. Teaching load is six courses, spread over two semesters or three, if the candidate is interested in teaching during our 3-week intensive May Term. We seek a generalist classicist who is able to teach Greek, Latin, and classical studies at all undergraduate levels. Courses that are already on the schedule include Greek 201 (Intermediate Greek), Greek Drama and Society (in translation), and Sex/Gender in Ancient Greece/Rome. Preference will be given to applicants who can offer two courses in religion, especially Pagans/Christians in Late Antiquity and Judaism/Christianity in the Greco-Roman World. The sixth course is open to the candidate's area of expertise.

Applicants should have the Ph.D. in hand or be in the very last stages of completing the dissertation. They should display evidence of accomplished teaching and scholarly promise. Electronic applications, clearly labeled in a single file, are preferred; please submit a cover letter, a current curriculum vitae, and three letters of recommendation to the administrative assistant Sharla Brown-Ajayi (e-mail: sbrownaj@iwu.edu). Please address materials to Nancy Sultan, Director of Greek & Roman Studies, Illinois Wesleyan University (email: nsultan@iwu.edu).

Note: Qualified candidates who had already applied for the earlier announced tenure-track position in ancient history/Latin may express interest in this new position by sending an email directly to Nancy Sultan (nsultan@iwu.edu).

Review of applications will begin March 1, 2013 and continue until the position is filled.
