THE J. PAUL GETTY MUSEUM -- LOS ANGELES, CA (Two Positions)
Education Specialists for the Villa, The J. Paul Getty Museum. The Getty Villa in Malibu, California will be a second location of The J. Paul Getty collection, and will have as its focus Greek and Roman art. The Getty is currently seeking two Education Specialists:
POSITION ONE: Education Specialist (Schools): Responsibilities: planning, development, administration of student and teacher programs, i.e. school visits, teacher workshops. Develop curricular materials, gallery lesson-plans. Assists with recruitment, training, and oversight of gallery teachers and other program staff. Graduate degree in art history, museum education, or related field required; expertise in Greek and Roman art, history, or culture strongly preferred; 5-8 years experience teaching in gallery and classroom environments, strong experience working with teacher and K-12 audiences. Ability to teach in Spanish and English preferred.
POSITION TWO: Education Specialist (Families): Responsibilities: planning, development, administration of family programs, including weekend events and the installation of an interactive family space. Develop interpretive materials for exhibitions, the permanent collection, and electronic media. Oversees program staff and docents. Graduate degree in art history, museum education, or related field required; expertise in Greek and Roman art, history, or culture strongly preferred; 5-8 years working in museum education with experience in didactic display, project management, and teaching art history to a younger audience. As part of a varying work schedule, will work some weekend hours. Ability to teach in Spanish and English preferred.
The successful candidate will be able to provide leadership in a collaborative work environment; must have demonstrated ability to create and manage educational programs for the target audience; experience developing and managing budgets; excellent writing and communication skills.
